Managing safety and urban operations across a rapidly growing twin-city region presented several challenges. The authorities required a centralized technology platform that could provide real-time visibility across critical locations, improve incident response, and enable better coordination between multiple departments and stakeholders.
The existing approach lacked the ability to efficiently monitor large areas, analyze security events, and provide actionable intelligence to law enforcement teams. The city required a scalable surveillance infrastructure capable of supporting continuous monitoring while improving the efficiency of security personnel.
A major challenge was the implementation of the project during the COVID-19 pandemic. The deployment faced restrictions related to manpower availability, transportation limitations, vendor coordination issues, and disruptions caused during civil works in busy city areas with complex underground utilities. Additionally, public and local stakeholder challenges impacted planned execution activities, requiring effective coordination and adaptive project management.
The project also required seamless integration of multiple technologies, including surveillance cameras, video analytics platforms, communication infrastructure, and command centre operations, to create a unified smart city ecosystem.
The Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Smart City Project was a transformative urban development initiative aimed at enhancing public safety, improving city management, and enabling technology-driven governance. Selected under the Government of India’s Smart Cities Mission, KDMC established the Smart Kalyan Dombivali Development Corporation Ltd. (SKDCL) as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and monitoring smart city initiatives across the region.
Allied Digital, as part of the consortium delivering the project, played a key role in implementing advanced surveillance and smart city technologies to improve situational awareness, strengthen security operations, and enable faster decision-making for city administrators and law enforcement agencies. The project focused on creating an integrated ecosystem combining intelligent surveillance, video analytics, command and control capabilities, and digital infrastructure to make Kalyan-Dombivali a safer and more connected city.
The initiative enabled real-time monitoring of security, traffic, and city utilities through a centralized operational framework, providing stakeholders with actionable insights to improve urban management and citizen safety.
Allied Digital implemented a comprehensive smart city surveillance solution designed to enhance security, improve monitoring capabilities, and provide authorities with real-time operational intelligence. The solution was based on a high-performance, highly available, and scalable architecture using advanced surveillance technologies and intelligent analytics.
The project included the installation of 846 IP cameras across KDMC Smart City, providing extensive surveillance coverage across strategic locations. The deployment also included 36 dashboard cameras and 35 vehicle-mounted cameras for police and fire brigade vehicles to enable real-time tracking and monitoring during field operations.
To enhance aerial monitoring capabilities, Allied Digital deployed three drones for surveillance of areas where traditional camera coverage was challenging. The solution also included a Video Management System for monitoring 303 junctions with 65 video analytics licenses, enabling intelligent detection and analysis of security events.
The integrated Command & Control Centre provided city administrators and police authorities with a centralized view of operations. The platform leveraged GIS and GPS capabilities to enable real-time tracking, faster response coordination, and improved situational awareness.
The solution incorporated AI-enabled video analytics capabilities to detect and alert authorities about various safety and security incidents, including facial recognition-based identification, suspicious activities, violence detection, and other city safety use cases. The system also enabled authenticated video evidence generation to support investigations and legal proceedings.
Allied Digital provided end-to-end implementation support along with operations and maintenance services to ensure long-term reliability, performance, and operational continuity of the smart city infrastructure.
