Allied Digital, with over four decades in the IT industry, has grown from its inception in a pre-PC world to becoming a leader in emerging technologies like AI, smart city solutions, and more. Shah provided a deep dive into how Allied Digital is adapting to rapid technological changes, the leadership principles guiding the company, and his vision for its future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From Mainframes to AI<\/strong><br \/>\nFounded in 1984 by Shah\u2019s father, an electrical engineer, Allied Digital started with a vision to support the growing need for IT solutions in an era dominated by mainframe computers. Reflecting on the company\u2019s journey, Shah explained, \u201cWe began at a time when computers were just emerging as critical business tools. My father, with his background from companies like CMC and Nelco, saw an opportunity to fill a gap, and that\u2019s how Allied Digital began.\u201d Over the past 40 years, Allied has witnessed transformative shifts in technology, from the pre-PC era to the current age of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Allied Digital operates globally and has embraced AI as a core component of its business strategy. Shah emphasised, \u201cAI is not just the future; it\u2019s becoming an integral part of daily operations across sectors. Every line of business we cater to has an AI element, enhancing productivity, driving efficiency, and reshaping customer experiences. Just as people adapted to mobile technology, AI will soon be woven into our everyday lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leveraging AI for data-driven urban solutions<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of Allied Digital\u2019s most impactful contributions lies in the realm of smart cities and safe city initiatives. Shah described their role in these projects, highlighting the importance of AI-driven data analytics. \u201cWe gather vast amounts of data from various subsystems, such as CCTV surveillance, smart lighting, intelligent traffic management, and\u00a0more.. \u201cAI-driven analytics enable us to interpret this data and help governments make better-informed decisions, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through these initiatives, Allied Digital envisions cities that are not only safer but also more efficient and adaptable to future needs. As urban areas expand and technology advances, Shah sees Allied playing a pivotal role in driving these transformations with scalable, AI-enabled solutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Navigating government policies<\/strong><br \/>\nDiscussing the challenges posed by government regulations, Shah offered a unique perspective, seeing every challenge as an opportunity. \u201cAny gaps or inefficiencies in policy often indicate areas where new business opportunities can emerge,\u201d he noted. \u201cFor example, the safe city and smart city initiatives arose from recognising a gap in urban management and security.\u201d Allied Digital\u2019s approach to navigating policies is straightforward: comply fully with regulations while finding ways to leverage them for business growth. This approach has been instrumental as they expand operations globally, from the US to Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Building and retaining a robust workforce<\/strong><br \/>\nIn an industry where skilled talent is the most critical asset, Shah underscored the complexity of managing a workforce in tech. \u201cOur raw materials are people \u2013 their skills, intelligence, and creativity. Unlike manufacturing, where raw materials are fixed, people are dynamic, and that makes workforce management both challenging and rewarding,\u201d he remarked. To attract and retain top talent, Allied Digital has implemented several initiatives, including in-house training programs, stock options (ESOPs), and a strong focus on empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s ERA (Employment, Responsibility, Accountability) philosophy fosters an environment where employees are empowered to make decisions. Shah explained, \u201cAt Allied, we often tell our employees, \u2018You are the CEO in your area.\u2019 This empowerment allows them to make impactful decisions while fostering a sense of ownership and accountability. They are encouraged to take on responsibilities confidently, knowing they have support from leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>A vision for the future<\/strong><br \/>\nLooking ahead, Shah is determined to uphold and build on the legacy established by the first generation of Allied Digital leaders. \u201cThe previous generation laid the foundation for what Allied Digital is today. Our responsibility is to grow this foundation into an even greater entity, with meaningful projects that contribute positively to society,\u201d he said. Shah\u2019s commitment is not only to the company\u2019s growth but also to a sustainable future, ensuring that Allied Digital\u2019s impact endures for decades to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leadership by empowerment<\/strong><br \/>\nReflecting on his leadership style, Shah emphasised the importance of delegation, decision-making, and fostering a growth-oriented mindset. \u201cMy philosophy is to empower my team to make decisions, whether right or wrong. Learning comes from action, and my role is to support them through that process,\u201d he shared. Shah believes in nurturing young leaders by encouraging them to embrace challenges and, more importantly, by standing behind them during setbacks. \u201cFailures are part of growth,\u201d he noted.
