Safe Cities
A safe city is one of the most important requirements for all cities of India today. This is due to growing crime rates, threats of terrorism and mounting traffic challenges. Large urban cities in India have a number one priority for making their surrounding safe and secure. Traffic management and emergency management are again bundled under the safe-city initiative. Other essential services include water and electricity management.
The objective is to proactively prevent crime, improve law and order in the city, analyse traffic violations, investigate incidents and setup & control immediate response mechanism on a critical incident occurrence.
Allied Digital Services Ltd. has already executed Pune as a successful safe-city project. This is a first of its kind large scale safe-city project in the country which combines proactive monitoring, real-time integrated profiling, video intelligence and fast response management system combined with active technology monitoring and 24x7 support for 5 years. The entire city is connected via optic fibre to provide a communication layer that captures video and data real-time from the 1400 cameras installed on city roads and makes them available to a centralized command centre, important government viewing centres and many police stations. The state-of the-art technology design is implemented to scale and creates a ready backbone for a Smart City initiative.

The project environment
The project involved extensive planning, surveys with multiple stakeholders, laisioning with multiple government agencies, overcoming various physical, geographical, local opposition obstacles. Such a project requires a daunting task in doing the financial planning. The work includes civil, electrical, mechanical and then majorly IT. Over 400 people were involved in this project, covering 650 sq. km of city with multiple project offices, logistics and implementation teams. Local authorities having realized the project value and potential of the project the citizens of Pune provided excellent co-operation in completing the project.
The project has been operational in phases since August 2014. The 24x7 observation of the city using the system provides real time situational awareness that has helped Pune police to timely and effectively respond to security threats. This has significant impact in reducing crime and provide crucial leads to crime investigations. As of date, over 200 incidents have been identified including few murder cases, major accidents, attempted theft, etc. The project is routinely managed by Pune Police and state home department authorities.
The systems enable a seamless collaboration with municipal and other city and state government authorities to improve the safety and security of the citizens and can easily extend towards building up a smart city initiative.
